The largest of Britain's corvids, the raven has for centuries inspired folklaw, superstition and admiration. Even the scientific name Corvus corax brings authority to this member of the crow family with an advanced intellect. Possessing an extraordinary vocabulary ravens were once widespread scavengers across Britain but centuries of persecution drove them to near extinction in the wild-lands to the far west of the British Isles. Today their presence is spreading back into their home range bringing their sonorous calls to the cities once again.
