The UK unemployment rate has risen to its highest level for two years, official figures show. The unemployment rate grew to 4.1% in the three months to July, compared with 3.9% previously. Firms continue to remove staff from payrolls as they prepare for the end of the government's furlough scheme. There are calls for the Chancellor to extend the furlough scheme in a more targeted way or introduce a special package of measures for sectors particularly hard-hit, like hospitality. Instead, Rishi Sunak is believed to be preparing to introduce a programme of retraining. We want to hear from you if you've lost work because of the pandemic.
