A Year of Revolution 100 years on, Woman's Hour takes a look at the year 1913 and what it meant to the suffrage movement both in the UK and abroad. Jenni Murray is joined by a panel of experts, as they discuss why the year before World War broke out was a revolutionary one for the women's movement. Emmeline Pankhurst was in and out of prison, the Cat and Mouse Act was passed by Parliament, Irish Home Rule was being debated in the House of Commons, a huge suffragette rally was organized in Hyde Park in London, and World War I loomed on the horizon. The panel discuss whether the British nation was 'under siege' in 1913, and to what extent this affected and shaped the suffrage movement.
