With Kirsty Lang, including a review of US sitcom The Big C in which Laura Linney stars as an uptight high-school teacher diagnosed with advanced melanoma. Last year comedian Harry Hill came up with an idea for an artwork. Bren O'Callaghan bought the idea for £50. They discuss the end result which goes on display as part of a new exhibition. Opera director David Pountney champions the work of the overlooked composer Mieczylaw Weinberg, with a new production opening at Opera North. Carol Topolski's novel Do No Harm takes the reader inside the mind of a rogue surgeon. Her debut novel Monster Love depicted a child in a cage and was long-listed for the Orange Prize.
