Asians and Disability - Forced Marriage

Asian Network Reports

Available for over a year

Every year, British Asian's with learning difficulties are getting married and, with the right support, they are living happily ever after, but there is also a devastating reality that 1 in 5 forced marriages involve a person with learning difficulties and there are fears that the figure is vastly under reported. Vulnerable young people and adults are put at risk of physical, emotional and sexual abuse but it needn't be this way. In this documentary Konnie Huq hears the stories from those caught up in illegal marriages and the Force Marriage Unit reveals exclusively to the Asian Network the new guidance that they hope will save learning disabled young people and adults from potentially life threatening situations.
