The major international donors of Sri Lanka have urged the parties in the conflict to stop all military actions.

The co-chairs: EU, Japan, Norway and the US have expressed deep regret over the bombing of a house in Kilinochchi that resulted in the death of five civilians.

The explosion on Thursday also damaged the Kilinochchi District Hospital and caused patients to flee.

Consecutive air strikes

"The Co-Chairs expect both the Government of Sri Lanka and the LTTE to refrain from military action," a statement issued on Friday stated.

The military in Sri Lanka said on Friday it carried out air strikes on Tamil Tiger bases on Friday.

It is the third consecutive day of air strikes since peace talks in Geneva broke down at the weekend.

A military spokesman said they bombed a Tiger training camp in the eastern district of Batticaloa, and a Sea Tiger base in Mannar district.

The rebels have not yet commented and there are no details of casualties.

Peace talks between the Sri lankan government and the Tamil Tigers collapsed on Sunday, shattering hopes of reviving the 2002 ceasefire.

It was the first time in eight months that the parties met together after the first round of talks in Geneva in Feruary this year.

The parties agreed to abide by the Cease fire Agreement (CFA) and not to launch military offensives at the end of second round of talks on 29 October.
