Forum: 'Battle' for Sampoor
The Tamil Tigers have admitted that they lost their stronghold in Sampur after fighting with Sri Lankan security forces.

Journalists who visited Sampur say the security forces are in full control in the area.

Have your say.

Well Done Sri Lanka. However what about the displaced poor Tamils, Muslims and Sinhalese? What Happened to them? What about the Soldiers and LTTE memebes died for this never ending struggle? Does any one thought about that? It's really brave to post messages from safe heavens.

The real battle is not over yet. The people of Sampoor are very poor. They have suffered a lot as a results of the war during the lat 20 years. Thus the real challenge (battle) for the government is treat them in a way that restores the confidence in the Government. The International NGOs have an important role to play in getting the refugees out of the current war zones, such as Vakarai and settling them back in the native villages in and around Sampoor.

It is sad that the 94% are singing and dancing that they beat the 6%. Yes, the TNA only got 6% after ballot box stuffing. My worry is that the 94% will walk all over the 6% and that is not very Lion of us. The Big man has many fascists hovering around him and are his "friends" appointed by him to high places. Troubled times ahead

Once again it has been proved that LTTE is a no match to SLA. LTTE is rely on properganda, which is back by western media including BBC. I would like to mention that BBC reporter Dumitra Lutra had reported the SLA struggle to release the sluice canal as "srilankan forces forward against Tamils". But during the secod day the bbc changed the title to avoid the criticism. I would say the BBC perpertators in sandeshaya and the reporters in Colombo are vicious than the LTTE. I would chalange if you can publish my opition in this page.

Tamils in LTTE controlled areas too have the right of democracy.Look at the dead or wounded LTTE soldiers...not even wearing shoes. But how are Barberic Prabakaran"s kids. Celebrating B'day parties in Britain with such glory..???
Manik Perera, Colombo, Sri Lanka

It is great to hear that our brave three forces have been able to take the full control of sampoor. But we should not underestimate the strength of the enemy at any time since it is a guerilla movement as they might be able to come up with any kind of terrorism.
Malee Perera, Colombo, Sri Lanka

My dear friends the battle is goin on in srilanka . actually the war didnt start yet. how can you come to a conclusion without enjoying the war. ltte has a long standing history in losing the battle and winning the war. but the SL government also having a big history on winning the battle finally losing 10 times bigger than what the achieved. As far as i know accourding to the LTTE's agenda war didn start yet. Once the finger is shown by the tamil's hero the destruction of the state terrorism will begin. lets wait till that

I don't support the LTTE,but nor do I support the government forces. There's corruption on both sides. The island belongs to all people.Tamils may have come to the island after we did,but we too had to migrate to Lanka at one stage. To understand the situation in Lanka, read the news on both Sinhala and Tamil sites. You get a more objective point of view.

'Victory' is measured by acquisition of land! The enormous cost of such 'victories' (both in terms of human lives and material wealth )is totally undemnined in a land of utter poverty. How much more will have to be spent to maintain the so called 'territorial integrity'? We are a nation who sell all what we have to invest on destroying our neighbours's land in the north and east.We are not winning, but day by day lossing in every sense. A nation which does not respect the freedom of the other is leading towards its own ensalvement.

Sri lankan Government must get rid of Norwagians before any talks, becasue they are bias and providing facilities to the LTTE terrorist, I preffer UK or Japan as mediators, and we should finsih the on going operation befor any talks.
Damith Dissanayake, East Yorkshire

Deepest symathies and thoughts are with the families of Sri-LAnka forces lost in combat. All land of this island belongs to the Government of this Sovering Nation and there should not be any boundries
Prince De Silva, Brea, California, USA

I have lost my country because of LTTE. They forced us to join them, kill my friends. It was a tearing period. I strongly say LTTE should completely be distroyed. I love goverment forces. we can live happily.
Murugees Velupillei, Melbourn, Australia

We should have some long term discussion with tamil leaders like Douglas Dewananda,Ananda Sangari to address the problems of tamil comunity. LTTE is not the sole reprsentator of tamils. Those tererists must be wipe out and defeated.
Agith Kumara, Sri Lanka

Our brave forces have done a great job to the nation on their way to beat terrorism
Mohamed Yassar, UK

If the LTTE does not want listen to others and denies fundamental rights of other communities, doesn't want to find solutions through democratic ways and means with mutual understanding and tolerance respecting pluralism, what else a legitimate government can do? If the LTTE didn't learn a lesson form Sampoor, and act in the same way as they used to, sure they will get more until they learn.
Daya, Austria

We should address the grievences of Tamils. But shouldn't allow any margin for terror.
Prabath Warnasinghe, Trincomalee

I am very happy commpletely control sri lankan security forces at sampur.
Danuka,Windhoek,Namibia

Sri lankan forces showed the world that ltte are just bunch of pussycats. Our forces can crush them if they have right leadership and command.we hope more operations to go ahead.
Mervin Fernando, London, England

As a sri lankan I am so happy to hear that the sri lankan brave army was able to catch sampur. The people of this country all the comunities should be able to live happly.
Jayendra Davepura, Geneva, Switzerland

People in Sri lank now safe in under the goverment forces battel to the rabbels.
Abdul badur, Glasgow, Scotland

Finally, it was heartening to see a news article that shows the defeats of the LTTE. The state and the Sinhalese people are committed to peace. The whole drama started when LTTE closed the sluice gate of a reserviour that provided wated for 60000 famers in the Sampur area. You very well know what the British government did when Argentina caaptured the Falkland Islands. A legitimate government cannot terrorists take things into their arms.

It looks like BBc is taking into consideration the constructive criticism it receives. If you continue like this, people will once again flock around BBC for impartial news.
