Ellesmere: Blakemere and the Llangollen Canal Built by Thomas Telford, the Llangollen Canal takes in some of the most beautiful scenery in north Shropshire and north east Wales, incorporating two impressive aqueducts at Chirk and Poncysllte.
On its approach to Ellesmere it hugs the bank of Blakemere, one of the collection of small lakes around the town, before entering a tunnel. This picture shows the section where the mere and the canal meet.
