| | Having scored a box office hat trick for his earlier three releases of 2007, Akshay Kumar triumphs once again on the silver screen with the release of Welcome. His latest release is a rollercoaster journey paying homage to the classic formula of Bollywood movie 'masala' magic. The film opened on 21 December 2007 in the UK cinemas. | Akshay Kumar stars in the latest comedy, Welcome |
Being a mega 2007 release from distributor Studio18, Welcome boasts lavish locales, chartbusting music and major star power, headed by Bollywood's very best, Akshay Kumar, all making for the biggest knockabout comic caper of 2007. 2007 has been the year of the Kumar. As a celluloid superstar, Akshay Kumar has topped the UK box office with consecutive successes like Namastey London, Heyy Babyy and Bhool Bhulaiyaa. In a spectacular finale to what has been a victorious year for Bollywood, Welcome combines all the classic ingredients of the basic Bollywood formula, to ensure that it makes for a fitting climax for the end of 2007. | Akshay is one of Bollywood's most respected actors. |
Produced by Firoz Nadiawala (of the Phir Hera Pheri fame) and directed by Anees Bazmee (of No Entry fame), Akshay Kumar is supported by an impressive list of fellow industry A-listers, in a role that sees him warm the hearts of Bollywood fans and critics once more. Akshay Kumar plays handsome bachelor, Rajiv, who falls for Sanjana (played by Akshay's lucky lead lady from Namastey London, Katrina Kaif) on a cruise trip, unaware that he is soon to become embroiled with his sweetheart's troupe of sibling comic mobsters. Commenting about the imminent release of Welcome, Akshay comments, "I am extremely excited about the release of my new film. I really wanted to get involved in a film project that goes back to the true essence of the Bollywood 'masala' movie, and Welcome is exactly that". | "I'm glad that I'm ending 2007 on a high with Welcome, my highest UK opener," says Akshay Kumar |
He continued, "There is something in it for everyone; it is high on entertainment and feel good factor. Filming Welcome was such a pleasurable experience, and that will certainly come across to audiences who see this movie. Welcome is a befitting climax to 2007 and is the perfect film for the festive season." With a historic opening, the Indian Films-Studio 18 mega release, has outstripped competition with other Bollywood releases this month and emerged a winner at the UK box office creating a new record for the superstar. The UK preview screenings and opening weekend grossed an amazing £370,000 from 40 screens by entring the UK top ten charts at number 8. Remarks Akshay Kumar of breaking his record, "Three previous hits and now Welcome creating records, 2007 has been a year of box-office fortune! I'm glad that I'm ending 2007 on a high with Welcome, my highest UK opener." |
