Which BMX products do you think need improving the most?
Euan:
Tyres that last through a few more skids.
Neil:
Probably shoes - shoes with soles that last through more than a month of riding. I'm waiting to see how these Lotek's are going to hold up, when they finally come in, that is.

What do you think have been greatest improvements in BMX production/design over the years?
Euan:
Any product you don't have to use a hammer and screwdriver with extreme force to fit to your bike
Neil: It seems pretty obvious, but bikes and parts getting stronger without being excessively heavy is a step in the right direction. Those hardworking men in Taiwan too, as much we all like to take the piss, are doing a fine job at pushing out £250 completes that look like they would have cost £600 in 1995.

Is it important for you to stock UK/Scottish brands?
Euan:
Any rider-owned products is good by me.
Neil: Yeah, definitely, as long as they make good stuff.

Is producing your own products important to you?
Euan:
We're hoping to get the Thirsty Jack label sorted out pretty soon. We've got some healthy shit in the pipeline and a thirsty team as well.
Neil: We haven't really produced much yet, just a few prototypes, but yeah, doing the range of OBM and Thirsty Jack tees and other gear will be good. We're commissioning a few designers/arty types to do some fly stuff for the OBM label; I'm looking forward to getting that moving along too.

Does the shop sponsor anyone?
Euan:
The Fall Guy, Daisy Duke for hot pants, Barry Gold, The Prisoner, Dave Clymer and Willie Natural.
Neil: T-Dave, Chris, Ray, James, Mike, The Joes and more. We're not exactly payin' wages, but we try to help out as many folk as possible. Cups of tea are on the house.

Has anyone been in the shop yet asking for stupid things that you would never think of stocking in a BMX shop?
Neil:
We had a young athlete in white sportswear in a while ago asking for a Piranha BMX.

What are more irritating - small children in the shop, neds or computers?
Euan:
Hangovers and neds
Neil: All of the above, and crustyies, and Slip-neds too, actually.

How many man hours per week are lost to coming in late with a hangover?
Euan:
A thoosand.
Neil: That's Mr Kelly's department.

Is employing a hot, female, sales assistant part of your overall business strategy?
Neil:
Damn right! That was a key part of our business plan. We’re not going hire a skanker, are we?

Where do you hope to go from here?
Euan:
To the pub every night, like.
Neil: Carrying a bigger range of BMXs and parts, some more lowriders and Stingrays, and sourcing lots more nice clothes that no one else in town is selling is the ongoing goal, I suppose. The full website will be finished soon, plus we'll be sorting out our own tees too, so there's plenty to keep us busy…

Thanks to Steve-O at Airtight, and everyone else who has helped out and supported the OBM cause so far.

Cheers!
