Episode 23. A Parcel of Rogues
Sunday, 17th June 2007, 5.05pm, Radio Scotland
In contrast to the celebrations going on in London, the Scottish music connected with the Act and Treaty of Union in 1707 could be described at best as ambiguous, when it wasn’t simply expressions of regret and disgust. John Purser introduces music from the time, and a piece by one of the Treaty’s signatories, that celebrates something completely different: Scotland’s own colonial ambitions.
