Bibles buried in sacred ceremony

Nearly 500 bibles have been buried in a religious ceremony at a graveyard on the isle of Lewis.
The idea for the respectful disposal of the bibles, mostly in Gaelic, came from the Ness Charity shop which had become overwhelmed by the number handed in.

Sewage works for Mull islanders

Two projects to end discharges of raw sewage into the Sound of Mull have been completed in a move Scottish Water said would benefit the environment.
Modern waste water treatment facilities costing £2m have been installed on the island at Craignure and Salen.

Hurt young turtle rescued in Skye

An injured loggerhead turtle has been rescued after it was spotted by two Japanese tourists during their holidays on Skye.
The 66cm-long (26ins) young male, which has a missing front left flipper, was recuperating at the Scottish Sea Life Sanctuary, near Oban, on Tuesday.

Rare mice returned to island home

Rare mice, relocated to the Scottish mainland while a mass cull of rats took place on a small island, have been returned to their home.
About 150 wood mice were taken from Canna in the Inner Hebrides to Edinburgh Zoo and Highland Wildlife Park last year.

Sea eagle 200th to take to 'Skye'

A white-tailed sea eagle chick on the Skye has become the 200th to take to the air since the birds began breeding again in Scotland 21 years ago.
The young raptor from one of the first recorded triplets on the island has flown its nest, which can be viewed via CCTV at the Aros Centre, near Portree.
