Unst Rambling.

It's about time that I ceased being a parasite on other's good blogs and, with excellent help from our moderator,Anne, I have obtained a new password and dragged my meagre offerings from the archives.
So. Tributes to our sweet 'Swan Queen' will continue on this site, despite the fact that she seems to have fallen for some foreign chap and appears to have no time to spare to comment upon all the posts which have concerned her. Most unlike the lad(ette)y,
Now. Extinguisher at the ready. I wish you all a Very Merry Christmas.

I'm sorry I asked. What I posed as a perfectly innocent question appears to have ruffled a few feathers. I am not knocking anyone or pretending to be an expert on Shetland matters. I simply find it strange that, out of 22000 or so Shetland residents, only two out of a dozen or so bloggers were born in Shetland.
But,is it really surprising? When reading the Shetland Times or listening to Radio Shetland, we find that nine out of ten 'spokes-persons' are not Shetlanders. They speak with Southern accents. Sooth-moothers,like myself. I wonder if they are the ones who are going to compile the new dictionary.
Claudias.

I have just done a stupid. I forgot about the contribute button and added my next entry as a comment at the end of all your replies. I don't know if it will pass the censors so here goes again.
The reason for my question. I have spent hours reading this site and the Shetlink one only to find that most voices seem to be Soothmoothers. That includes the ferryloupers like the gorgeous SwanQueen. The only one to identify themselves as a local was Scallowaywife.
For the curious. I am An Unst Travelled Yorkie. I arrived here in May 1970 at the age of 36years and 6 months and if I live to my birthday in November I will be 73 and able to claim, for one day only,to have spent half my life pre Unst and half post Unst arrival.
After a year enjoying this beautiful island I married a local wife who told me that I would have to learn the dialect because she wasn't going to knap to me. This I did with pleasure for she had a large collection of dialect writing, and have hoped ever since that the use of dialect would increase. Last years conference showed promise but the new Shetland Dictionary seems very slow to get underway.
Please keep the comments flowing.
