Big money

BBC Scotland radio programme 'Welcome to Hornswoggle County ' (2003)

A woman who worked at the oil terminal at Sullom Voe was interviewed about her work experiences.

Picture of coins being dropped from a hand.

"Well at the grand old age of 15 I realised that …when it came to summer work, it was possible to make a lot of money if you were that age up at the terminal by simply going scraping mince off plates and making sandwiches and stuff like that. Turned up signed your name, a week later you were up there a Kelvin catering uniform on and making over £200 a week, tax free which was incredible at the time. I'd friends who were working in shoe shops for £25 a week. It was amazing to be that age and make that amount of money and it ruined my attitude to money for the rest of my life."
