'The Boom' by cartoonist Starrett from the book 'Rattling the cage'.
This contemporary source is a cartoon. It suggests that the development of the oil industry has created as many problems as it has solved. Many Scots continued to face serious health, housing and education issues. It is interesting to consider the extent to which the cartoonist has been selective in the use of statistics to blame the oil boom for problems which, in fact, pre-dated the developments in the North Sea.
