Aberica?

Image of a hamburger.

This source of information is quite useful as it describes how local businesses in Aberdeen are catering for the tastes of foreign workers who have a great deal of money to spend. Note how the presenter points out the fact that Aberdeen was enjoying a consumer boom at a time when demand for luxury items was dropping in the rest of Britain.

'Aberdeen Boom City' BBC Radio Scotland programme broadcast in 1981.

Aberdeen must be one of the easiest places in Britain in which to find a hamburger. The steaks, if you can afford them in some restaurants, are easily big enough to satisfy the most demanding Texan. There is also a parlour which sells more than 30 kinds of ice-cream, right through to liquorice.

Often consumer demand, which has been dropping in other parts of Britain, can't be satisfied and shoppers have to wait for goods, ranging from new styles in shoes to video recorders.
