Argyll

In common with other Scottish car manufacturers, the Argyll Company found it difficult to compete with cars factories in England and abroad. In Scotland, poor managers failed to realise that successful car manufacturing produced thousands of cars, more cheaply, each year using modern assembly line methods. Also, the small-scale of Scotland's car industry meant there were few local suppliers of parts. Parts were supplied by English companies and Scottish car makers had to pay the extra cost of transporting them hundreds of miles from the English Midlands. These problems meant that Scottish cars were much more expensive than similar cars built in England.
