You and Yours has been investigating what happens to the huge piles of clothing that are discarded by retail fashion chains.
With fierce competition, shortening fashion seasons, and low production costs there is an increasing amount of textile waste being created by the industry. Some retailers have been accused of deliberately damaging their goods before throwing them out to avoid cheapening the brand.
When we ask them about this they deny it but retail insiders tell us it’s commonplace and has been going on for years.
With charity shops full to bursting textile waste can often end up in landfill.
