Gay Pride

Coming out

Listen to the item

Steve, grew up in Cumbria in the 1930's.

With 4 older brothers and one sister, Steve was the baby of the family - and he discovered from a pretty early age that he was also different from the rest of them.

And growing up gay was certainly not an easy thing to do at that time anywhere in this country, let alone in an isolated rural community, so Steve kept his sexuality to himself.

And indeed it's taken him some 60 odd years to as it were 'come out'.

Now 74, Steve came into the studio to tell us about his life and times.
