I conceived of this selection as a musical triptich of three possible phases of our society. In this narrative the opening track presents a claustrophobic image of a culture saturated in information. The choppy, spikey, drill-n-bass texture reminiscent of new trends in our visual culture such as Architecture and TV. Ultimately this is not self-sustaining and hence the music collapses into the reflective, sublime distopia of Track 2, which opens with the an appropriate sample "What's going on?". In the vein of similar Monreal set-ups such as Godspeed You Black Emperor and A Silver Mount Zion, Sings Reign Rebuilder paints a melancholy picture of urban life, weaving samples of the city into an expansive, desolate soundscape. Track 3 picks up on this musical bleakness. The pizzicato phrase, stark in its simplicity and timbre becomes alsmost mantra-like through its repetition. The layers of the violin parts build on this scaffolding during the piece as if holding a promise of new hope…
