BACKGROUND
These are, for me, three rather personal statements, with a link perhaps being loss felt across the generations.Came across the little jewel 'Left' at the tail end of a recent release by Charlie Dore, and it's unlike anything else on the album, such a sense of loss, timeless. The Indonesian piece too is moving, from the Sundanese province (apparently), a mother sings to her son of their abandonment by the father, which I came across on a lavish 3-cd set of vocal music from around the world. The Four Tet track brings us into a brighter landscape, makes me think of new hope, a lullaby sung in an intensive care unit if you like, and builds beautifully. Hope in dark times...
