Congrats or Commiserations...
You'll either be celebrating or commiserating in your home right now, but whatever happens it's important to let your child know you're proud of them.
Even if you're disappointed with their results, reassure them that their life plans haven't come to an abrupt stop just because they haven't done as well as they wanted.
There are still a lot of options - continuing in education, moving into vocational training, resitting exams, or getting a job, among others.
CLEARING
For students who want to go to university, but didn't get their required grades, the Clearing process allows them to apply for remaining places at universities in the UK.
Clearing isn't a scramble for a few places; it's an opportunity to rethink the course, where to study, and the type of course to do at university.
As long as a student has reasonable qualifications, they can find a place through Clearing.
Students can call the National Exams Results Helpline on 0808 100 8000 once they've got their results and talk to an adviser who will have access to all the latest information on clearing and vacancies.
OTHER OPTIONS
For parents, it's worth checking out all available options, in order to make an informed decision.
If your child’s results weren't what they hoped for, they may want to re-sit exams, or consider alternative qualifications like HNDs or vocational courses. They could also choose to go straight into work.
There’s also lots more information for students on the different options available at the Radio 1 The Surgery website.
Don't forget you can post your questions on the Message Board where they will be answered by a trained expert who can advise on the Clearing system, funding and much more. Just leave your queries online and pop back to see their response.
