So where's good in Birmingham???
We asked you for your favourite bars, clubs, shops and venues.
We've put the best in Your Guide to Birmingham...
Dave D
Brum is crying out for a decent indie night. Snobs has been stale for a long time now - becoming a poor mix of crap indie, bad house and commercial R&B. If you like the same thing week in week out, its great, but otherwise its worth keeping away. Bring back Groovy Garden!
Gay Pete
Kashmir Cottage, Bearwood High Street. Absolutley fab food, recommend the lamb tikka bhuna. Never has meat taste so good.....xx
Jono
Custard Factory in Digbeth. Great atmosphere, amazing tunes and world class live acts. More break beat and hip hop, baggy jeans and trainers rather than shirts and shoes (thank god!). A good crowd and tunes that will get your toes tapping!
Georgie
It has to be Auzzie bar on sat night they have a live band on til 12 and then its cheese upstairs and dance & RnB downstairs. oooohhh and llyods bar is good to start off in any night as its a posh wetherspoons !!! i will be there this weekend - bring it on !!
John
By far the best night out in Brum has to be a meal in the Chinese Quarter, then a few bars in the Arcadian Centre, then on to Broad Street, Risa is a really good club, with 3 big rooms and a good mix of modern tunes and the best chill out room in Brum!!!!
Mani
If you're after a curry then Cafe Lazeez in The Mailbox is the place to go. Tasty views with amazing curry....or should that be tasty curry with amazing views. either way, get yourself down there.
HIDDEN, ARCADIAN
Hidden, recently referbed, the PLACE IS BETTER THAN EVA! Funky/vocal house. Promise is Sat night, best in brum easily!!!!
dj gav jones
best place to go in birmingham the night before one big weekend is snobs on a saturday great indie and sixties with my self dave moses and paul sunflower cook playing sixties best bar in birmingham is the sunflower lounge small brook queensway cool little bar
Shari Black Velvet
Reddington's Rare Records near Digbeth Coach Station is a great record store. It's packed with heaps of vinyl, CDs, and even stocks Black Velvet Fanzine (based in the area). Best venues for gigs are the Carling Academy, Academy 2 and Bar Academy. Three venues of varying size in the same complex. If you want arena sized bands then there's the NEC or the NIA while smaller bands can also choose to perform at the Irish Centre or Flapper & Firkin.
Adam
If your a bit of a geezer or a great lookin' chick into the Mod/Indie/Rock/Retro scene then go to the Flapper & Firkin/Sunflower Lounge or the Jug Of Ale in Moseley then move on to Snobs Nightclub/Academy/Subway City or the Medicine Bar in the Custard Factory. If your the trouser wearing shirt tucking type and have little or no character then go to Broad Street you'll love it, if not avoid it as it's full of idiots looking for trouble. Long live the Ship-A-Shore & the Pot Of Beer which were the most amazing places in town.
MuseumAnorak
Thinktank science museum is brilliant. I've never been to a more interesting place. Fantastic. Take the kids, take the grandma, leave the pet at home though.
Philip
It all depends what you're into. I love the fab 70s retro shop in the Custard Factory near Digbeth coach station ... that's also where the Medicine bar is. The Glee comedy club in Arcadian is really good, especially when they have music gigs. StarCity is worth a visit just to say you've been. The Jam House is owned by Jools Holland and offers good food with good music but it's so popular you need to book about 6 weeks ahead. I love all the new places as well - there's a really good daytime and early evening atmosphere round the Bullring and the Mailbox. Obviously all the action at night is around Broad St. When you're there don't forget Regency Wharf at the back of the Hyatt hotel, home of The Living Room and The Zinc Bar, both exceptionally classy and both well worth a visit if you prefer a less loutish atmosphere than the rest of Broad Street.
Pete
Sorry to go a bit misty eyed on this one, but the best club in Birmingham was, and always will be the Q Club on Corporation Street. Anyone who went along to a Flashback, Atomic Jam or even a Slammin Vinyl will know that the venue was stunning with loads of twisty corridors to get lost in and a massive friendly chill out room with a huge picture of Snoopy smiling down apon you....magic!! The atmosphere was fantastic as everyone was there for one reason....to have a blinding time!
Zuzu
The Sunflower Lounge - great alternative and retro tunes, and Brums bestest cutting edge DJs in the basement most weekends - try Friday nights once a month for the fab This Is Normal crew playing some cool alt music. Also loads of drink offers!
random bloke
got to be godskitchen!!we got sum fantastic local dj talent such as paul thomas, hinsley, surgon.but if your not into dance music you can allways come down and hear our charming accents which in my opinion is sexier than the french accent.TERRIFIC!!plus check out tempest records (upstairs)for the best techno u can find in brum & great staff.
shasha
bullring is brill for shoppin. bridley place is good if you like that sort of thing. board streetis wicked. the rainbow pub is a brill pub. its wear the students hang. it has live bands on some nights and a really good house dj. not to pricly either.
Rhys
The Works on Broad St, Friday, Saturday nights are wicked in there! 3 rooms, Dance in the main room and cheese in the other with a RnB room up stairs! holds around 3000 people and the main room is always packed! get ur butt in there!!!
Chris Colden
Edwards Number 8 has to be the best place for a night out. Everyone is friendly and the musics brill, especially if your into rock and metal!
Simon
REFLEX in the arcadian centre has to be on your stop list. The cool & funky tunes from the 80's and the top bubbly the DJ gives away on friday is worth a visit never mind the music. The music takes you back to the old school days
Helen
Honestly Broad Street isnt THAT bad. Yes lots of drunken people and girls wearing very little but you get that everywhere and you get some good drink deals which means you can go onto the some of the best clubs in the country including Nightingales, which is meant to be a Gay club but you'll find quite a few straight ladies there and it goes on until 6am. Also like the Living Room, and if you have money go to the Mailbox and Summer Row.
Johnny
Broad Street is fun.. buzzing all the time..from The Works to the Sports cafe, there's so much happening.. and if you want Arcadian isn't too bad, some good bars especially for the summer!
chrissey
all saints in the bull ring is kinda cool for shopping you cant beat a night out in arcadian any bar there is greatfor a night of glam if your looking for trendy lads but snobs has to be my fave cheap drinks great music cant go wrong..
Munky
Do you remember ‘Speed Garage’? It kicked off about 1996/97, well its been renamed Phunky Bassline and Brum is its home. Practically every club drops these tunes, espesh the after clubs. Try it you might like it. Or you might think it’s the worst noise you ever encountered.
Terri
What's all this about Broad St being rubbish? Being like Ibiza West End is a good thing not a bad thing
Catherine
Reflex on broad street is a laugh and if you're lucky you might get some 80s freebies off the dj! 50p thursdays at subway city are fab and sooo cheap, otherwise theres polaris for a bit of class or for proper cheese til 4am go to dv8.
Lizzie
It has to be godskitchen on a friday night at air. The line-up is fantastic every week and the atmosphere is so friendly compared to other clubs in birmingham that can be very pretentious.
Sad Joe
My favourite pub is The New Inn in Harborne. You can drink a pint of tramps pants real ale, talk to old men and there three legged dogs and will never ever meet any attractive members of the opposite sex (if you are a bloke you will never meet anyone of the opposite sex)
Claire L
Arcadian by far is the best place to go. Funky music, with nice decor in all the bars with well dressed sexy people! What more could you want!
Ben
Stay off Broad Street, as it gets more like Ibiza West End every week. I'd head to the Mailbox or SummerRow for something a bit more chilled. The Arcadian is a bit scruffy now but still has a good atmosphere.
charlie
the Works for cheesey old tunes to bop to, good for work parties of mixed ages, Risa for a little bit of everythin', but before all that, get merry for cheap at the dodgy Weatherspoons cuz the drinks r toooooo dear everywhere else.By the way, "they cor spake proper down thia".only black country folk do that well, so if your looking for a bit a black country slang, head down to the crooked house in dudley, then onto the waterfront at Merry Hill
JAMIE-ANNE
maybe i go out too much but every where that sells drink! brum is full of great places all of the above are true. snobs and ressurection for dirty rock and funky cheap nights, arcadian and summer row for trendy bars, mailbox and brindley place for eating, medicine bar, air, kudos, and g2 for you allnighters...the list goes on. seriously understated city
Chloe
'Earth from the Air' Exhibition in Victoria Square and Centenary Way
Stumbled upon these most amazing ariel photographs that make you look at the world in a completely different way - what's more it's outdoors and free!! - The best thing I've seen for ages!!
georgina
Big Wednesday at snobs (paradise circus) cos it's just wicked! Alternative 60s in one room and indie in the other... I don't think I've found a better club yet (and I left b'ham 2yrs ago!).
And the academy bar/club - again, a great range of 60s/northern soul and indie and totally down to earth in its attendees too :o)
Richard
Newt and Cucumber, under the Pallasades. Good music, good service, good food and atmosphere - especially for the England games.
Bones
Legs 11, need i say any more fellas
James Evans From Kidderminster
Its not far to Kidderminster from Birmingham :D
annieka
i can't believe no-one's mentioned the rainbow - a pub just up from the custard factory, its my local, and its about 4 miles away from my house - and yeah, broad street = faliraki, so unless you're into that kind of stuff stay well clear
Roof
The Jam House; owned by Jools Holland himself! Excellent cocktails, not to mention the best live funky tunes to dance the night away to xx
Rakesh
sunday- lloyds bar
monday- bar risa
tuesday-indi bar
wednesday- snobs
thursday- barracuda
friday- polaris
saturday- academy your week sorted!!!
Claire
If you like the line-up of the Bands Day, you'll love Snobs, the best little rock club in town. It does more than just rock, I've even heard them playing GLC. There's also a 60s room playing such greats as the Kinks. Its very small and studenty (and a bit smelly) but has a fab atmosphere and is very cheap.
For a bit of class go to the Mailbox for food. If you look around you can find great meals at pretty good prices and there are cocktail bars to move on to afterwards
Smokin Vinyl
a brand nu record and clothes shop at six ways erdington specialising in dance music and urban styles, its only just opened and looks fresh, they do everthing from funky house to drum and bass, clothing brands such as aerosoul and theyv'e even got a headshop! Well worth a vistit - Mike
shona n pete
subway- afters @subway 4am till 10am sunday morning,10/10 defo! the tunes are banging and the people in there are sweeet as bruva!
Rob
Do it student style!!! The pub crawls down Bristol Road in Selly Oak, and the Harbourne Run are fantastic nights out!!!
steve
Check out The medicine bar within the custard factory. Had a seriously good night there. If you like drum & bass, with graffiti artist thrown in, its a must. bangin.
laura
arcadian for funky bars & chilled out nights, also summer row - metchu rocks. selfridges & bull ring have to be seen - birmingham really has had a serious facelift recently
Dj Kitzfuel
Avoid Broad Street at all costs, arcadian is where you'll find a good atmosphere between 9ish to 11ish on a Saturday. Then head to Bambu (with a newly fitted air con system, much needed) or Miss Moneypennys. Both clubs are hassle free and any violence is rare. If you dont wash and like grunge head to Snobs or the Academy.
katrina!!!!
Gotta b brannigans for student nite on a tuesday!pitstop then risa on a thursday!then eiva the sports cafe or the locks 2 fill da rest ov da week!!g2 go 2 broad street cuz its just ace!!
amy
If your a classy bird then stick to metchu on summer row, plenty of footballer types there, if you're like me and prefer to sup your pint in peace go to snobs for a your feet stick to the dancefloor sort of vibe, flapper and firkin on brindley place have some of the best local musical talent around but indie bar in arcadian has the best dancers!
sarah
Go to G2 to carry on from the night before at breafast time. Don't expect bacon sandwiches though just funky basslines.
Kev & Shaz
We like Broad Street, guhuh! Then again we weren't really brung up proper! Anyone like our Burberry outfits?!
Lisa Bx
Thought I would give you the low down as people are not clear on their tastes.... Hurst Street has everything for the gay community, Broad Street has everything for the beer leary community, Tonnes of Good Food in the mail box for the hungary, Arcadian and Summer Row for those who strike a pose, Carling and Snobs for the student / indie community, Gods Kitchen, Sundessential for the cybers and Moon Lounge, Kudos, Radius and The Village for those who like a wharmpa - ME probably be at them all hehehehe!
Sarah
The best bars have to be the medicine bar in the custard factory purely due to the wicked line up they never fail to provide, relaxed atmosphere and cool like minded people, also new bar Forme, wicked little set up and good headlining djs. Clubs vary between the sanctuary and air, and subway city for a bit of dirty techno
Spider
Westend Dj, 2nd floor of Selfridges in the Bullring, the best scratch djs playing all day everyday. Oh yeah, they also sell the best selection of dj equipment at the best prices. For a really fabulous rock night, head for HQ at the bottom of Constitution Hill (opposite Sound Control) on a friday night.
Keri
Check out the Comedy Club "Jonglers" on Broad Street if you can get tickets, huge pitchers of coctails, delicious snacks, hilarious comedy, and it's all set right in the middle of the nightlife for afterwards! Have a look at their website!
Paul
Moseley Village ! Start at the Kings Heath end and have a drink in every pub on the way to the Moseley dance centre,by this point you won't notice that your feet are stuck to the floor while dancing to 70's classics
Tanya

Simon
Broad Street. Simple as!!! Especially Risa and The Works
Sarah
the Jam House in the Jewellery Quarter, fit guys and great music!
Chris-Tronica
Snobs and Subway, as mentioned, play a fantastic mix of indie and it's friends at student prices. The Arcadian and Broad Street areas are there for more trendy customers who don't mind getting a bit ripped off for atmosphere. The Bull Ring has improved Brum's shops beyond belief. There's more than that though. Try the IKON gallery in Brindleyplace for example.
Graham

Ok bit of a list BUT:
Arcadian, cool bars/restaurants and all of a high class Brindley place, nice little bars and few restaurants, mailbox Yummy Food, Bull Ring is ACE, Merry Hill is fine but really far out, Kudos , Funky House from 9pm to 9am, ya cant beat it to be honest, in fact most places EXCEPT BROAD STREET, please stay away from there unless your using the cinema, Imagine the trashiest people in the world dancing to the trashiest songs in the world and your only half way there, ANYWAY Enjoy Brum, better see you dancing somewhere
Wobbly Dave
The Medicine Bar at the custard factory in Digbeth. Coolest bar in brum, great for live hip hop acts like grandmaster flash, ty, de la soul etc etc. Only 5 minute walk from the bull ring.

Apres and Metchu on Summer Row are just fantastic bars. Chilled out atmosphere and a big shared sun terrace, just the place to sit, chill and have a beer.
Abi
Selfridges can't be beaten for shopping for quirky brands.
The Fabulous Sunflower Lounge is an alternative/ retro bar, also try the Medicine Bar at the Custard Factory for an arty atmosphere, or Denial at the canalside Mailbox for a touch of class. Or get out of the city centre and head for boho Moseley.
And you've got to have a Brum Balti.
