The Road to the Big Weekend diary

Read about the jolly adventures of Colin, Edith and the production team as they tour Scotland on to way to Radio 1's Big Weekend.

Woke up in a panic...

Had been promised sunshine today - important as we are outside all day and going on a boat trip later. Woke up to what sounded like a gale blowing... luckily it was just an extractor fan by the bins outside my hotel room. Classy!

We're in Oban

So we're in the port of Oban today - the gateway to the islands.

When I last saw Colin he was really getting into a Playstation game which he was playing in the pub with some poor unsuspecting locals. He was actually running around the bar shouting excitedly when he scored a goal, so if he sounds a bit croaky today, that's why.

Why is my mouth so dry?

Oh yeah. Harbour Bar. Oban. Pints. Iss Pro Evolution against the bar staff. Penalties! Bloody sissy. I should never have let him take one. Need breakfast. Need coffee. Let's have a look outside... bright sunshine. I'll appreciate it later.

Boating safety fun

There's a bloke in the nearby restaurant here who looks like Mark Goodier! Haha!

We've just had our safety briefing for the boat we're getting on later. For some reason they can't park it (or whatever they do) next to the quay so we've got to climb across two other boats to get onto it - should be interesting.

The weather's great up here, so we're making the most of it! Hello to our colleagues in rainy London.

Just off the air...

Peace at last! Have just waved goodbye to C&E and the rest of the team as they got on the Argyll Sundowner boat... am quite jealous being land locked whilst they hit the open seas, however Hoop Dog was looking a little green around the gills, so at least I won't be in charge of cleaning up last night's fish n chips if the seas get a little choppy.

Don't worry about me, nothing to see here

I must say I felt fine on the boat - perhaps I just look green around the gills normally? Rubbish.

"Thanks Oban - you were brilliant!"

I wonder how their French Listening exam went?! Loads of kids came down from Oban High at the start of show. They were all spot on... no-one trying to cut cables or cause trouble. Top kids. Their exam was at quarter to two.

We had a nice crowd for the show. Loads of young mothers and families also... little shy Danielle was the cutest little four year old on the planet! Although, not even a bribe of eighty pence could prize a smile out of her!

We got sidetracked

We're supposed to be in our next destination, but I have the feeling we've got the best weather in the whole UK right now so it would be rude not to stop for a pint or two.

Tongues loosened, we quickly found out who on tour has slept with the most people (at the same time!) and other things that really should be kept to yourself... it really is always the quiet ones you have to watch!

Ahem, quiet?

That conversation was wrong on so many levels, although I'd hardly describe the person mentioned by Piers as 'quiet'.

In other news, as well as being mistaken for Chappers, this evening Colin got mistaken for Brian Dowling (off've Vernon Kay) while naked and applying eye make-up in the hotel. If you see Colin this week why not make it a hat trick and pretend you think he's Federico from Big Brother 4? He'd love that.
