Competitive growers Ed and Alex met through family; Ed’s wife is best friends with Alex’s daughter Clare. While Ed is a very successful allotmenteer, Alex has just moved house and so is sitting on the allotment waiting list. In the meantime he is proudly doing up his new garden.
The pair are both ‘family men’ and socialise together through their children and grandchildren; Alex often looks after Ed’s kids, who are friends with Alex’s grandchildren. They’re at the same school so Alex often picks up all the children from both families and looks after them all until the parents get home from work. Ed shares a boat with Alex’s son-in-law, so they can occasionally be found on a gentle sail to the nearest pub; another shared interest that they’re very passionate about!
Ed has been proclaimed leader of their team in the competition, but Alex wants to make sure his input is well and truly present. Although they haven’t worked together before, they have very similar ideas for their plot, which they'll iron out using a whiteboard in their greenhouse, and think they will make for an unbeatable team.
