Kate Humble
Kate Humble is a writer and presenter who has consistently ignored the age-old advice never to work with animals.
Kate lambed her very first sheep in series one of Lambing Live and has been on a steep learning curve ever since. She’s learned about hill sheep and lowland sheep, about ‘tups’ and ‘hoggs’, about ‘hefting’ and ‘gathers’. She now has her own flock, her own farming business and her own apprentice sheepdog called Teg.
In September 2013, Kate was apprenticed to the Dykes family and soon discovered that hardy Scottish sheep have minds of their own. She learned how to manage over 1,000 sheep across over 1,000 acres, what it takes to prepare the ewes to meet the rams, and how to select the right lambs to go to market. Kate even saw how her own sheep got on when Hamish bought two of her Badger Faced Welsh Mountain lambs to put with some of his ewes.
Her most recent television credits include The Wonder of Dogs, Airport Live and Orbit: Earth’s Extraordinary Journey. She has brought us the joys of all things furry and feathered in Springwatch and Autumnwatch, travelled the world for The Spice Trail and The Frankincense Trail, and ventured in search of some very remote sheep in Wild Shepherdess.
