‘Why new steel rules could shut us down’
A Worcester garage says new import tariffs could 'double' costs of raw materials. Imports of steel above a set quota will face a 50% tariffs in a Government bid to protect domestic steelmaking from 'global over-supply'.
John Taylor from A44 Exhaust Shop says if the measure goes ahead, it will be the end of his business.
Elliott Webb reports.
A spokesperson for the Department for Business and Trade said: 'The new steel trade measure aims to strike the right balance between protecting UK steel production and maintaining secure supply. We will conduct a formal review after 12 months to ensure it remains effective.'
