The Leeds women who "wouldn't stay quiet"
Gayle Lofthouse speaks to Ruth Steinberg about the 1977 Reclaim the Night movement.
A new publication called 'The People's History of Leeds', tells the story of the city through the voices of its citizens. A large part of the publication is the 'Reclaim the Night' movement which began in Leeds in 1977 as part of the Women's Liberation Movement opposing police advice telling them to stay home during the Yorkshire Ripper murders. Ruth Steinberg, who wrote this section of the book, and was a part of this movement, chats about it with BBC Radio Leeds presenter, Gayle Lofthouse.
