The Green Dragon Inn: an infamous murder
16th May 1978 – a notorious day in Leicester’s history
In the area where Leicester Market has been temporarily rehomed, there once stood The Green Dragon Inn.
The murder of the landlord, John Fenton, by pistol, became infamous because it led to a mysterious royal pardon for the murderer - a Frenchman called Francis Soules.
