The Green Dragon Inn: an infamous murder

16th May 1978 – a notorious day in Leicester’s history

In the area where Leicester Market has been temporarily rehomed, there once stood The Green Dragon Inn.

The murder of the landlord, John Fenton, by pistol, became infamous because it led to a mysterious royal pardon for the murderer - a Frenchman called Francis Soules.

BBC Leicester’s Ben Jackson takes up the story with Leicester historian Jo Mungovin
