The Racing Pod: 'How we treat concussion'
With decades of experience, hear how the experts treat one of the sport's biggest risks, at Worcester Racecourse.
Bryony Harris and Trevor Owens introduce Dr Philip Pritchard, Senior Medical Raceday Office, and Chris Broad, Parade Ring Safety Office, who are on the lookout for keeping jockeys safe when they are riding at speeds close to 40mph.
Chris Broad began life as a stable lad, before becoming a jockey and later moving in to work as an agent.
Dr Philip Pritchard has been riding horses since the age of two. He found rugby first, which included a spell at Gloucester, before working at hospitals, including Cheltenham, as an anaesthetist. He came back in to racing, and shares how the treatment for concussion has changed over the years.
