A hero of the Titanic
Father Thomas Byles was a passenger on the maiden voyage of RMS Titanic in April 1912.
In April 1912, RMS Titanic was just a few days into her maiden voyage to New York, sailing with 2,208 passengers and crew onboard, when the ship collided with an iceberg in the Atlantic Ocean.
One of those who perished was Father Thomas Byles, the priest at St Helen's Catholic church in Chipping Ongar.
