“He’s a man by age but not by design”

Matthew Carter was born with a genetic disorder called Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome. At the time, he was only the 28th person in medical history with the diagnosis.

His mother Shirley Carter was told he wouldn’t live past the age of one, but on February 7th he celebrated his 50th birthday. Sally Pepper spoke to Shirley and Matthew’s carer Charlotte Sanders.
