“The BBC was the soundtrack to my childhood” – Sally El Hosaini on BBC 100

The BBC has always been a very important institution for Sally El Hosaini and it touched her life from a very early age. The British filmmaker of Egyptian-Welsh heritage has enjoyed considerable success, from her first feature My Brother the Devil which won a trove of awards, to her recent refugee drama, The Swimmers, which earned the prestigious opening night slot at the Toronto International Film Festival. As she tells Tom Brook as part of the BBC 100 centenary celebrations, it was the BBC which nurtured her interest in the world and storytelling.
