Sowande's African Suite gets the audience's feet tapping

The delightful African Suite by the Nigerian Fela Sowande is one of a number of works by black composers included in the 2021 season of BBC Proms. Conceived in the 1940s, the Suite brings the colours and rhythms of West-African music to a European string orchestra. The Chineke orchestra is conducted by Kalena Bovell in the final, fifth movement of the Suite.
