The Story of Stax in 7 minutes
The BBC Proms celebrates 60 years of the legendary soul record label, Stax Records, founded in Memphis in 1957. The musicians and staff of the label all described it as being a 'family'.
Hammond organist Booker T. Jones and guitarist Steve Cropper, alongside Deanie Parker - musician, the second Stax employee and CEO of the Stax Museum of American Soul Music - tell the story of the label (with a little help from Sir Tom Jones)
