What did Robbie Savage do with his first big pay cheque?

Robbie Savage talked to Andrew Flintoff and Matthew Syed about the jump in wages he went received when signing for Leicester City.

Savage said: “It’s bizarre, one minute you’re borrowing off your mum for a new pair of jeans, then you’re on £4,000 a week.”

Savage moved from Crewe where he earned £150 a week, and bought quite an unusual vehicle with his first pay cheque from the foxes.

“I had a little Fiesta – I crashed it and thought, “what can I buy?” So I bought a pink Porsche. But it blew up the same night I bought it.”
