Alonso has ‘real chance’ in IndyCar – Andretti
Italian-born American racing driver Mario Andretti, the only man to win the Indianapolis 500, Daytona 500 and the Formula One World Championship, says Fernando Alonso “has a real chance of potentially winning” the 101st Indy 500.
Alonso had been given clearance by his McLaren team to miss the Monaco Grand Prix to take part in the race on 28 May.
Andretti told BBC Radio 5 live sport that he can draw comparisons between himself and Alonso. He said: “the desire and the curiosity to jump over to what is basically a speciality is something I relished myself throughout my career and I have a lot of respect for that."
