Sir John Hurt on BBC Radio Norfolk

Sir John Hurt spent the last few years of his life living in North Norfolk, just outside of East Runton, near Cromer. It was there that he died, on January 25 2017.

While living on the North Norfolk coast, Sir John was kind enough to speak to us here at BBC Radio Norfolk, his local radio station, on several occasions.

In May 2012, he bumped into The Garden Party's Thordis Fridriksson at the Chelsea Flower Show, and stopped for a chat! (Click here to listen)

A couple of months later, he came into the BBC in Norwich and spoke to Stephen Bumfrey about his involvement with the charity Project Harar. (Click here to listen)

In January 2013, John Hurt was officially installed as the Chancellor of the Norwich University of the Arts. After the ceremony, he spoke to BBC Radio Norfolk's Paul Hayes - and good-naturedly took Paul to task over whether or not he always played characters with miserable and unhappy lives! (Click here to listen)

Later that year, he took part in a special performance at the Theatre Royal in Norwich to mark the centenary of the beginning of the First World War. He spoke to our Teatime Show presenter Matthew Gudgin about the piece, called "To End All Wars". (Click here to listen)

He became Sir John Hurt after receiving a knighthood in the 2015 New Year's Honours list, and in January that year he spoke to Stephen Bumfrey about how it felt to now be Sir John. (Click here to listen)
