How can a dad still love the sport that killed his son?
Steve Bunce describes why Dick Owen still loved boxing, despite his son Johnny dying after injuries sustained in the ring.
Johnny Owen fought Mexican Lupe Pintor for his WBC Bantamweight belt, but was knocked out in the 12th round and never regained consciousness.
But his dad, Dick, still loved the sport of boxing because of the opportunities it had given his son.
"He saw his son blossom from the kid who wasn't picked for any sports teams...he was nothing," Steve Bunce told Mike Costello and Will Perry on 5 live boxing.
"Whenever his son went into the gym he saw something he thought he'd never see, his son blossomed, his son changed before his eyes."
