The German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, has suffered a political setback in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania where her Christian Democratic Union party looks set to be relegated to third place.

Opposition supporters in Zimbabwe go to court on Monday to challenge a two-week ban on demonstrations.
