Crisis in Eastern Europe

Tensions rise over Crimea; Syrian doctor's plea; German security

The Ukrainian government has accused Russia of looking for a reason to attack it. The accusation follows allegations made by President Putin in which he claimed Russian forces had foiled a sabotage attempt by Ukrainian special forces in Crimea.

29 of the last 35 remaining doctors in eastern Aleppo, Syria have written a letter to US President Barack Obama, asking him to establish safe corridors to allow humanitarian aid to besieged districts.

The German Interior Ministry is proposing a raft of new measures including banning the burka and getting rid of dual citizenship. The proposals come after a series of attacks in July including two claimed by so-called Islamic State.
