Theresa May Appoints New Cabinet

May appoints Boris Johnson foreign secretary; IS Omar Shishani dead; Zimbabwe opposition pastor's lawyer

Mrs May surprised many with one of her first cabinet appointments, making Boris Johnson foreign secretary. Mr Johnson (the former Mayor of London) was one of the leading campaigners to leave the European Union. After the referendum he was briefly among the favourites to become prime minister. Another Leave campaigner, David Davis has been appointed as the minister in charge of negotiating Britain's exit from the EU.

The Islamic State group has confirmed the death of one of its top military commanders, Omar Shishani. A news agency linked to IS (Amaq) said Shishani, described by the Pentagon as the militant group's 'minister of war', was killed in combat in the Iraqi city of Shirqat, south of Mosul.

A court in Zimbabwe has freed a pastor who's led a social media campaign against government mismanagement. Throwing out the case, the magistrate said prosecutors had changed the charges against Pastor Evan Mawarire without forewarning him. Hundreds of his supporters at the court cheered the judgement.
