Allen Stanford on ‘storm from hell’

Disgraced tycoon Allen Stanford, currently serving a 110-year prison sentence for his role in one of the biggest Ponzi schemes in US history, gave BBC 5 live his first interview since 2009.

The Texan banker rose to prominence outside the US when he bankrolled international cricket competitions in the UK and the Caribbean, but became the subject of several fraud investigations and, on 17 February 2009 was charged with investment fraud worth $7bn (£4.5bn).

“It is hard to believe, every single waiting moment, that I’m in this penitentiary” he said, speaking to BBC Sport's Editor Dan Roan, adding that he thinks his jail term is a result of "the wrongful actions of the US government”.
