Romeo and Juliet in the Balkans

Preti Taneja looks at the significance of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet in the Balkans, from the Serbo-Croat translation of the play overseen by Nikola Koljevic, later Vice-President of the Bosnian Serbs, to a remarkable production staged jointly by the national theatres of Serbia and Kosovo in 2015.

Preti Taneja is Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Global Shakespeare at Queen Mary University of London and Warwick University.
