Wladimir Klitschko: I want rematch against Tyson Fury
Wladimir Klitschko takes up contractual option for a rematch against Tyson Fury.
“I have a pre-Christmas gift for Tyson Fury and boxing fans around the world…the fight of 2016 is in the making,” announces Wladimir Klitschko as he takes up the option for a rematch with Tyson Fury.
Klitschko suffered a shock defeat by Britain’s Fury in Dusseldorf on Saturday in their heavyweight world title fight.
The Ukrainian’s decision has been welcomed by the Fury camp, with the new champion’s trainer and uncle Peter Fury saying: “We’re definitely looking for the stoppage next time, because Tyson in my opinion, only performed around 60% of what his capabilities are…we’re over the moon.”
BBC boxing correspondent Mike Costello says that while the Fury camp are talking up Wembley Stadium for the fight, “Germany is still a very serious option, because of Wladimir’s huge drawing power there.”
And don’t get too carried away - Costello admits that he would be surprised if the fight happens before Klitschko turns 40 in March.
