Sir Alex Ferguson is one of the most respected people in Manchester after his Manchester United football team dominated the league under his management.

But would he consider a political management role at the heart of the city?

Manchester is at the vanguard of the government’s Northern Powerhouse strategy, with an elected mayor set to be installed with power to control transport, employment and education.

Today presenter Nick Robinson has been investigating whether the Manchester powerhouse is a politician’s dream or a practical reality, and asked Sir Alex whether he would consider running for the top job.
