Tony Bellew: It’s insane that I’m in a Rocky film

Former Commonwealth champion Tony Bellew tells Darren Campbell about his role in the new Rocky film, Creed. He plays the world champion who fights the title character, and is still overawed by the role. “It sounds absolutely insane that I’m part of the Rocky franchise,” he says.

“How embarrassing that my name is Pretty Ricky Conlon,” says Bellew, who, as an avid Everton fan, told Sylvester Stallone he would not accept the part if he had to play a Liverpool supporter.

As Steve Parry exclaims “you’re the new Ivan Drago”, Bellew admits: “It’s much easier taking pretend punches than real ones - and it pays better too.”
