Goes Stateside

This film looks at how BBC Introducing champions new music at a local level in the UK and promotes it on an international stage.

In 2009 a relatively unknown Florence + the Machine played a session for BBC Introducing in London - since then over 130,000 artists from all over the UK have uploaded their music to the BBC Introducing website. Six years on Florence is one of the headline acts at Glastonbury festival and BBC Introducing has hit America!

This film takes a look at how BBC Introducing champions new music at a local level in the UK and also promotes it on an international stage.

We hit the road on tour in Atlanta with 2014’s BBC Introducing Newcomer Award winners Catfish and the Bottlemen. We hang out on tour with Van McCann and the band as they introduce their brand of Llandudno rock, wit and repartee to America.

Over on the West Coast we speak to legendary producer, Rick Rubin, and get exclusive access to his recording studio in Malibu - Shangri La as we meet up with the Ruen Brothers. The lads tell us how they have gone from playing pubs in Scunthorpe to BBC Introducing’s Maida Vale sessions to following in the footsteps of Jake Bugg & Adele by recording with Rubin.

The film rounds off in Austin, Texas at the biggest music festival in America – South by Southwest.

We follow 6 new BBC Introducing artists in the run up to the BBC Introducing & PRS Foundation showcase. Huw Stephens, Steve Lamacq & Dermot O’Leary talk about the importance of SXSW for a new artist and we chat to the BBC Introducing artists featuring this year: Little Simz, Jack Garratt, Spring King, Gengahr, SOAK and Blossoms who tell us about the impact BBC Introducing has had on their career and their hopes and fears about performing at the showcase that night.
