Wild Fires Continue to Burn Out Of Control in California

Thousands flee homes in California; Algeria replaces spy chief; The Great Khali is back in India.

Thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes in northern California, where wildfires continue to burn out of control. The California state governor, Jerry Brown, has declared a state of emergency in the worst-affected counties where hundreds of homes and other structures have been destroyed.

The Algerian president, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, has replaced the world's longest-serving military intelligence chief. General Mohamed Mediene, better known as Toufik, had held the post for 25 years. Some analysts suggest that in effect he shared power with the president. Newsday speaks to Omar Chabbi, an Algerian journalist

One of India's most popular sportsman, The Great Khali, is back in the country after spending more than a decade fighting WWE bouts in the US. Having set-up a pro wrestling academy in his home state of Punjab in northern India, he plans to have several more throughout the country and develop a culture of wrestling in India.
