Tony Hall: 'Crucial time for the BBC'
David Cameron's re-election with a majority, followed by the appointment of John Whittingdale as Culture Secretary led the newspaper headline writers to conclude: the new government is going to war with the BBC.
BBC Director General Tony Hall says it is a "crucial time" for the BBC ahead of the renewal of the Royal Charter in 2016 and a new licence fee settlement.
Speaking to Andrew Marr, he says the broadcaster's mission to "inform, educate and entertain is as pertinent now" as it has ever been.
